Dell extends unique storage system to Nigeria

IN LINE with it strategic expansion plan and the need to bring excellent storage system closer to the doorstep of users in Nigeria Dell, a computer company, recently introduced Dell Compellent Storage technology.

Disclosing this at a media presentation recently in Lagos, the Director, Storage Solution, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Ossama El Samadoni, explained that Dell Compellent storage centre was a highly virtualised storage array with built-in intelligence about data, which for instance, was a type of drives used to store data, performance level, and frequency of access.

According to him, “we decided to bring this new storage system into Nigeria based on the need to provide a comprehensive solution providers, having noted that storage is key to any investment. We want to help organisations make right decisions for their businesses by allowing them extract value from their data,” he said.

He affirmed that Dell Compellent Storage Centre was an all-in-one storage array that always puts data in the right place at the right time for the right cost. With Fluid Data technology, Nigerians can optimise efficiency, agility and resiliency to slash storage costs up to 80 per cent, scale on a single platform and secure data against downtime and disaster.

Dell recently acquired compellent technologies, a network storage provider based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The move, according to Samadoni, expanded Dell’s storage area network arrays.

While addressing stakeholders, he further stated that over the past year, the company had acquired the best intellectual property in the industry. All of these companies represented non-traditional ways and better methods for storing data.

“The acquisition of Exanet technology provided a scalable file system that promises scale-out benefits similar to EqualLogic arrays and an intuitive unified management console.  The Ocarina acquisition provides the industry’s best optimisation capabilities, which will enhance Dell’s storage software portfolio – a portfolio that is already feature-rich. Today, we are officially taking another step toward changing data management by completing our acquisition compellent.”
