FG raises panel on out-of-school children

AS part of the measures aimed at rejuvenating the interests of young men and women in the 11 states in the south-east and south-south geopolitical zones in the country in education, the Federal Government has set up a special committee on out-of-school children from the two zones.

The committee, which is headed by Prof. Victor Peretomode of the Faculty of Education, Delta State University, Abraka, draws membership from across the two zones. They include intellectuals and policy makers, and a former Vice Chancellor and retired director of the National Universities Commission, (NUC), Prof. Placid Njoku.

Inaugurating the committee in his office Monday, Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike said the establishment of the committee was in line with the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan that special basic education schools be built with an admixture of vocational studies in each of the 11 states in the south-east and south-south to cater for their peculiar educational needs and occupational development.
