Gunmen kill man in Damaturu

THREE gunmen yesterday attacked a mechanic workshop in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, killing its owner, Musa Toma.

The gunmen, according to an eyewitness, Yusufu Audu, came in a Volkswagen vehicle and demanded some money from Toma before they shot him dead.

In a telephone interview, Yobe State Police Commissioner, Patrick Egbuniwe, said the gunmen walked to the mechanic workshop in Damaturu and demanded money from the owner.

He said: “When they could not get money from the owner of the workshop, the armed robbers shot him dead at the workshop; and fled to an unknown destination in the Damaturu metropolis. These gunmen are not terrorists, but a bunch of armed robbers desperately looking for money from innocent citizens.”

On whether arrests have been made, he said: “We are investigating with the preliminary information the police have from eyewitnesses and relations of the slain auto-mechanic. The body of Toma has been deposited at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, for autopsy and identification by relations.”
