Gunshot mars Pillars, Heartland tie

The match day 8 star game of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) between Kano Pillars and Heartland on Wednesday ended abruptly after a Police officer shot a football fan inside the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Reasons why the law enforcement agent chose to result to fatal defence (what about if the fans has been declared dead) is still sketchy as at the time of filling this report as calls put through to Kano to ascertain the identity of the fan did not yield result.

Report from the Sani Abacha Stadium as informed by Pillars spokesman, Jubril Malikawa said: “The incident occurred as the game entered its 30th minute, so play had to be stopped by the match official after the gunshot was heard as he ushered both teams to their dressing rooms.

“On the resumption of play after the tension had been stable, the centre referee called captains of both sides to call on their mates but that of Heartland sort otherwise after he and his mates chose to remain in their dressing room.

“The official then had no choice than to go on with the walk-over ceremony after he had waited for the mandatory minutes as stipulated by NPFL rules.”

Meanwhile, the club General Manger, Abba Galadinma informed that the club will investigate the bizarre incident.

Galadinma said: “The incident is regrettable as the club will investigate the matter as it would not want a repeat of such in the future.”
