Lagos: Six arrested over alleged car theft
“An unregistered Toyota Carina saloon car, guns and cartridges were allegedly recovered from the suspects.”
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday, apprehended a car-snatching gang, the command’s spokesman, Samuel Jinadu said.
Three men were arrested in connection with the gang. Jinadu alleged that the gang operated between Lagos and Ogun States; adding that they terrorised the residents of Ikorodu, Ojo, and Ifoyin.
The police spokesman disclosed that three female accomplices of the gang were also apprehended by the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
An unregistered Toyota Carina saloon car, three locally-made double barrel guns and 25 live cartridges were, allegedly, recovered from the suspects on Saturday.
Jinadu disclosed that an AK-47 magazine loaded with ammunition, one locally-made pistol and three masks were retrieved from a suspect picked up at his hideout in Odonla area of Ikorodu.
“Men of SARS, Ikeja, shot dead a fleeing robber at 13, Oladapo St., Igando, in a shoot out,’’ Jinadu said.
The police spokesman said the suspects were still being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
Meanwhile, police said they had also launched a manhunt for a hit-and- run driver, who allegedly killed a pedestrian on Mushin-Isolo Road also on Saturday.
They said the corpse of the 22-year-old man had been deposited at the mortuary.
