London Mayor, NBA sign MoU on Business Law

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Rt. Hon. Alder man Roger Gifford, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Law Society of England and Wales and its Nigerian counterpart on Business Law.

The MoU co-sponsored by the Nigeria-British Association, is directed at the financial service sector, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Inland Revenue Service, as well as on the nation’s economy.

While Nankunda Katangaza, Head of International Policy, Law Society of England and Wales signed for the , Law Society of England and Wales, Gbenga Oyebode, Chairman, Section on Business Law, signed for the Nigeria Bar Association. Tax laws, financial regulations, capital market regulations, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), were also given spotlight by speakers at the event.

Some of the speakers at the event were Mr. Olamide Oladosu, Partner, Templars Law Chamber and Mrs. Ayotunde Owoigbe, Partner, Banwo and Ighodalo Law Chamber. The speakers took the opportunity to intimate the British team on laws and regulations governing business in Nigeria.

The occasion was also used by the Law Society of England and Wales, through the Lord Mayor of the City of London, to make a cheque presentation to a Non-Governmental Organisation, Laptops4Learning, which was received by its co-founder and Executive Director, Mr. H. Tomi Davies.

Others at the event were Mr Mike Purves, the Director, Trade and Investment, UK Trade and Investment, one of the sponsors of the event, Peter Carter, Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission,Roger Woodbridge, Executive Director, Mainstreet Bank Limited, Richard Goulden, Petroleum Segment Manager, Mantrac Nigeria Limited and Toyin Bashorun, who represented the NBA President, Okey Wali (SAN).
