Mimiko begins campaign tomorrow

MIMIKO-OKONDO State Governor Olusegun Mimiko will tomorrow kick off his campaign in Owo ahead of the October 20 gubernatorial election. The event will take place at the Methodist College in the town.

Mimiko, according to the state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, chose Owo for the kick-off of the campaign because of the town’s relevance to the political history of the South-West.

In an interview with reporters in Akure, Akinmade said progressive politics as initiated by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, started in the home of Chief Adekunle Ajasin in Owo, adding that it was not by accident that Mimiko was presiding over a state where progressive politics started.

The commissioner said: “It is just natural that the governor kick-starts his campaign for a new term from the cradle of progressive politics having been able to successfully fly the banner in the past three-and-a-half years as Governor of Ondo State.”

Besides, former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) gubernatorial aspirant in Ondo State, Dr. Olu Agunloye, has berated leaders of the ACN whom he described as people who want to remote-control the destiny of the state.

Agunloye defected to the Labour Party because of what he called lack of internal democracy in picking its flag-bearer for the coming gubernatorial election in the state.
