Naval officer kills girlfriend, stabs himself to death in Lagos

A NAVAL seaman who killed his girlfriend at his apartment in Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos, last weekend is dead.

He was said to have stabbed himself immediately he killed her. Naval authorities had tried to manage his health at the Navy Hospital, Ojo, but he eventually died.

Navy spokesman in Lagos, Lieutenant Commander Jerry Omodara confirmed his death. “We don’t really know what happened between them, but investigations would reveal that. They were living together as lovers in the same house with the intention of getting married. They were course mates in Navy School,” Omodara said.

Meanwhile, a naval source, who pleaded anonymity, said his death would not stop justice from taking its course.

“This is military. A panel has been set up already to try him. We would try his dead body, if he is found guilty, we will deliver the necessary sentence, that is the law”, he said.

The Western Naval Command Police had arrested the rating identified simply as Harry immediately he committed the act and stabbed himself.
