NSCDC deploys 40,000 officers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday deployed 40,000 regular and non-regular personnel across the country to maintain law and order during the New Year celebration.

The corps’ spokesman Emma Okeh, in a telephone chat, told The Nation that NSCDC has asked senior officers to be part of the assignment.

The Commandant-General of the corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, said NSCDC would ensure a hitch free celebration, noting that the period is significant to Christians and Muslims.

He assured of security, saying NSCDC in its friendly style of operation will not condone crime and lawlessness by anybody or group.

Abolurin urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authority.

He said some criminals are fond of capitalising on public holidays to perpetrate evil, adding that they would prevent this.

He wished Nigerians a prosperous 2013.
