Protesting LASU students barricade Lagos-Badagry expressway

Lagos State University students, LASU, protesting the proposed hike in tuition fees, recently announced by the insitution, have barricaded the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. 

The sudents locked the road with a seized BRT bus and an articulated truck, as movement on the road, as at the time of this report, is at a stand still.

Vehicles going out to Badagry are stuck just as incoming vehicle into the mega city cannot move beyond the school gate.

Trouble started this morning when students union executives of the school mobilised their colleagues for the protest. Other students were chassed out of the examination halls in the ongoing 2010/2011 2nd semester examinations.

Vanguard news gathered that the increase is over 700 percent.

According to a bulletin(INFO/PR/LASU/1192 issued by LASU’s Information and Public Relations Unit of the Vice Chancellor’s office on October 12 entitled “Proposed Increase In School Fees for the  2011/2012 Academic Session: New students admitted into the Arts/Education  faculty will pay N193,750; Social and Management Faculty tsudents will pay N223,750.

For Faculty of Law, the proposed fee is N248,750; Part 1 students in Communications/Transport will pay, N238,750;  Science , N258,750, Engineering, N298,750 while College of Medicine  students will pay N348750.
