Tukur pledges better deal for PDP, Jigawa officials quit for polls

ONE of the aspirants contesting for the post of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bamanga Tukur, has expressed worries over the dwindling state of the party, adding that the party requires a new life to regain its status.

Meanwhile, a serving commissioner and five other top officials in Jigawa State have resigned their appointments to enable them contest the forthcoming PDP’s congresses.

Tukur, who stated this on Monday during a courtesy call on Governor Gabriel Suswam at the Government House, Makurdi, stressed that the party was a house with licking roof that should be mended, assuring that he would mend the umbrella party.

He expressed bitterness that the party at the last general election lost the entire South-West and only managed to clinch few Senate seats, and stressed that commitment, discipline, ideals as well as principles of the party have been thrown over board.

Those who have relinquished their positions in Jigawa State include the Commissioner of Economic and Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda; the Special Assistant on Special Needs, Ali Tukur and a board member of the state Universal Primary Basic Education, Alhaji Isah Alhasan Koriyal.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sule Lamido, Malam Kiyari Jitau, confirmed the resignation of the government officials, saying the governor had approved their exit.

Kiyari stated that Lamido also directed Alhaji Rabi’u Isa Taura who is the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources to oversee the Ministry of Economic and Youth Empowerment.
