Two Time World Coach Of The Year Turns Down Nigerian Coaching Offer
A two time FIFA coach of the year, Pia Sundhage has made it known that she is “not good enough” to handle the reigning women African champions, Super Falcons.
According to PM news, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, had not made it official to hire the Sweden coach but that did not stop the coach from saying that she was focusing on her team’s attempts to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Women’s World Cup.
AfricanFootball.com had first reported that top officials of the NFF were considering Sundhage to take over the Falcons after they crashed out of the 2015 Women’s World Cup at the group stage under the tutelage of Edwin Okon.
Sundhage who has formerly coached the USA, said that she may not be up to take up the chance to coach any Nigerian team right now.
She said, “You know what, today I don’t think I am good enough to coach in Nigeria.”
Pia Sundhage led her team to a 3-3 draw with Nigeria in the first group game before her team palyed a goalless draw against the USA and playing a 1-1 draw with Australia in the final group game.
Sweden now have to await the outcome of matches in Groups E and F to know their fate at the World Cup.
