U.S. to assist Kwara, Anambra on agric, others

McculleyTHE United States (U.S.) has promised to assist Kwara and Anambra States to achieve economic prosperity.

Speaking in Ilorin, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Terence McCulley said his country’s assistance to Kwara State government would be in the area of commercial agriculture.

He added that the aid would cover such areas as cultivation, harvesting and marketing of the produce.

McCulley, during a courtesy call on the Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday said the proposition was feasible due to continuity of the agricultural policy of the immediate past governor by the incumbent government.

Similarly, in Awka, the U.S. Consul General to Nigeria, Mr. Joseph Stafford said he was in the state to explore areas of co-operation between his country and Anambra State, adding that the contributions of the state to the national economy were appreciable.

He commended Governor Peter Obi for his strong and committed leadership and said he was excited by the state’s motto “The Light of the Nation”, which, according to him, had been justified by the progress and development under Obi.

Responding, Obi thanked him the visit and said Anambra was committed to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which it had adopted as its goals for rapid development.
