Woman nabbed for dumping baby in Edo

A 25-year old woman identified as Joy Tunde was on Tuesday nabbed after she confessed to have dumped her three days old baby to an uncompleted building.

She reportedly threw the baby over a fence into the uncompleted residential building at Obazuaye Street, off Osakpamwan Street, Evbareke Quarters, Egor local government area of Edo State.

The act was said to have been committed at about 2am on Saturday, but residents in the area discovered the baby three days later.

Sources said thorough Investigations by the residents led to the discovery of the baby’s mother.

Residents were prevented from beating up the mother after she confessed to the crime.

Eyewitnesses told our reporter the mother of the baby confessed to the act when they threatened to deploy spiritual means to investigate the incident.

Joy said she threw the baby away because she had a previous “unwanted” baby for another man.

The woman said threw the baby away after the man that impregnated her refused to accept responsibility for the baby.

Men of the Textile Mill road Police Division arrested Joy and her mother but the baby was taken to the Neonatal clinic of the Benin Central Hospital.

Bruises were discovered on the head and side of the baby.

The hospital Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Sandra Omoregbe, said the baby is responding to treatment.
