Yari seeks peaceful council polls

GOVERNOR Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State yesterday kicked off campaign for the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidates contesting the June 23, 2012, local council elections.

Yari said his administration had fulfilled 80 per cent of his campaign promises and appealed to the citizens to cooperate with him to consolidate the gains recorded within his first one year in office.

The campaign kicked off at the headquarters of Bukkuyum Local Council and moved to Anka Local Council where the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to carrying out a free and fair election.

He asked politicians to consider elections as a normal act and play the game with maturity and decorum.

The governor said the unmet campaign promises are the expansion of free medical services to women and children at the general hospitals in the 13 local councils and empowering of women financially.
