Yobe okays N2.6b for fertilizers, others

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has approved the procurement and distribution of 6, 000 metric tones of fertilizer to supplement the state’s 11, 500 metric at N781 million.

The rehabilitation of the state- owned Yobe Broadcasting

Corporation (YBC), has also been approved by the council at total cost of N224 million.

Briefing newsmen at the weekend on the outcome of the council meeting at Government House, Damaturu, the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Goni Fika said the executive council approved the immediate release of N2.6 billion for the two projects, and construction of access roads at the Bukar Abba Ibrahim University (BAIU) campus.

He said: “In boosting food production this farming season, government had to supplement the 11, 500 metric tones of fertilizers with 6, 000 metric tones of Urea for onward distribution to farmers across the state.”

This year’s hajj exercise, according to him, would gulp N480 million for

the 530 intending pilgrims from Yobe State to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

He, however, warned farmers against the diversion of fertilizers for selfish interests.
