FG Reappoints NECO Registrar For Second Term

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the re-appointment of Prof. Promise Okpala as Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO) for the second term. 

A statement signed by Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in Minna on Friday stated that it took effect from April 9.

It stated: “I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, has approved your reappointment as Registrar of NECO.

“This reappointment is the second and the final term of three years, in accordance with the provision of Section 9(3) (a) of the NECO establishment Act, CAP. N37,LFN 2002.

“The reappointment takes effect from April 9, 2012 under the terms and conditions of service as contained in certain political, public and judicial office holders’ salaries and allowances Amendment Act 2008.

“Please accept my congratulations and best wishes on your re-appointment.”

The NECO branch of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) had on Thursday threatened to remove Okpala from office, saying that his tenure as registrar expired on April 9.

Mr Saidu Ndagi, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the union, vowed to eject Okpala from office if he did not stop coming to the office before April 16. (NAN)
